Oliver Frazer, Study of the Head of Henry Clay, ca. 1850. Oil on canvas.

Oliver Frazer (1808-1864) was a Fayette County native who studied with Kentucky portraitist Matthew Harris Jouett and well-known painter Thomas Sully. Frazer studied painting abroad before establishing a studio in Lexington; he painted Henry Clay multiple times.

The painting featured here is considered to be a study for a larger portrait of Clay.
