Campaign Ribbon
The campaign ribbon seen here is undated, but it likely relates to the Bank War of the 1830s, and Henry Clay's campaign for the Presidency in 1832.
The text above the image reads, "The People's Welfare My Reward."
Below the image reads, "Henry Clay. Protection to American Industry is necessary to secure the Independence of our Country. And a National Bank is as necessary to a Nation as National Laws. H. Clay."
The charter of the Second Bank of the United States expired in 1836. Before that, there was much debate between Henry Clay, who supported a national bank, and Andrew Jackson, who opposed it. When Jackson defeated Clay in the election, the bank was not renewed.
